Uganda’s youngest musician, Patrick Ssenyonjo alias Fresh Kid, has got Division 1 in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) released on Thursday.
The young star, renowned for his hit song “Bambi,” has demonstrated that talent and academics can go hand in hand by scoring an impressive 11 aggregates.
Fresh Kid, who was visibly excited, revealed that he had been nervous while checking his results.
“I feel so excited and proud because I performed well in my PLE. I gave my friend my index number to check the results for me, but my heart was racing the whole time. When he called to tell me, I was so nervous that I hid and hesitated to answer his calls. Eventually, I picked up, and when he told me I scored 11, I was overwhelmed with joy and thought,” he said.
Fresh Kid first captured the nation’s attention with his lyrical genius and stage presence at a remarkably young age.
However, his rise to fame also drew concerns from citizens and government officials about his education.
Among them was Nakiwala Kiyingi, the then Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, who advocated for his right to education.
In 2019, Kiyingi intervened, placing restrictions on Fresh Kid’s performances and banning him from appearing at night shows.
Recognizing the importance of balancing his talent and academics, she secured him a full bursary at Kampala Parents School.
This life changing opportunity was generously extended by the Ruparelia family, particularly Rajiv Ruparelia, who ensured that the young rapper transitioned from a challenging ghetto life in Nansana to an urban, corporate lifestyle.
For the past five years, Fresh Kid has been a student at Kampala Parents School, where he has excelled both in class and on stage.
His journey was made easier with a vehicle provided by the Ruparelia family, which ensured his daily commute from home to school was seamless.
His father, Mutabaazi Paul also known as Fresh Daddy praised Kampala Parents staff and Ruparelia family for the opportunity.
He congratulated his son for not ashaming him.
