The former deputy director of the Government Citizen Interaction Centre, Duncan Abigaba has threatened to sue Frank Mwesigye, a member of the MK Movement for allegedly defaming him.
In a December, 5, 2023 letter through his lawyers of PACE Advocates, Abigaba says through his X account on November ,29, Mwesigye made comments that were intended to defame him.
“Our client contends that the e statements were defamatory, derogatory, false and malicious; and the publication of the same has caused our client to suffer hatred, contempt, ridicule, odium, embarrassment with the capacity to lower his esteem amongst right thinking members of the society generally, and his peers in particular,” Abigaba’s lawyers say.
They insist that it is in the knowledge of Mwesigye that he has a distinguished track record of public service, he is an international scholar of undoubtable repute, which goes way across the Ugandan borders.
“All the above defamatory statements were published by you knowing them to be false; without any lawful justification and are defamatory in nature in far as they subjected our client to public contempt, disgrace, ridicule thereby injuring his reputation.”
Demands
The lawyers say they have stern instructions to demand an immediate retraction of the offensive post from Frank Mwesigye’s social media handle, a public apology using the same forum and payment of shs100 million for the anguish that the post caused to Abigaba.
“ All the above should be done in not later than three days from the date of this letter. Failure to heed, our strict instructions are to institute civil proceedings against you, to enforce our client’s rights, at your cost Its in your best interest that you take this matter with the urgency, seriousness and caution, that it deserves.”
The development stems from a war of words that Abigaba had with Mwesigye on X recently.
