The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced changes to the schedule for the display of the national voters register and voters registers for special interest groups, pushing the exercise to later dates than initially planned.
According to a statement released by the Commission, the nationwide display of the National Voters Register will now commence on April 25, 2025, and run until May 15, 2025, instead of the previously announced April 17 to May 8 schedule.
Similarly, the display of the Voters Registers for Special Interest Groups including youths, persons with disabilities, and older persons will also begin on April 25 and end on May 8, 2025.
“The adjustment has been made to ensure thorough preparations and smooth conduct of the exercise,” said Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
He emphasized the importance of the exercise, noting that it is a critical phase in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the upcoming General Elections.
“This is the opportunity for all Ugandans to confirm that their names and particulars are correctly captured on the Voters Register,” Justice Byabakama stated. “It is also a chance to identify and report the names of ineligible persons, such as the deceased or those not qualified to vote.”
Justice Byabakama further explained that the display of recommendations from Parish Tribunals regarding inclusions and deletions from the Voters Register will now take place between May 16 and May 26, 2025.
He called on all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the general public, to actively participate in the process.
“We urge all eligible voters and stakeholders to take part in this critical exercise and follow the guidelines that will be issued. This is our collective responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the 2025/2026 General Elections,” he added.
The EC assured the public that it will continue to provide updates and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
