The Electoral Commission (EC) will later today start the nomination exercise for candidates vying for the vacant Kawempe Division North parliamentary seat .

The nomination exercise for candidates vying for these vacant positions will take place at the EC offices in Kawempe, located near Akamwesi Mall along Gayaza Road.
The first aspirant is expected to be nominated at exactly 9 a.m., with more candidates following in succession.
According to the Electoral Commission spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi the exercise conducted under the supervision of the designated Returning Officer, Mr. Henry Makabayi, is being closely monitored by the EC team to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.
He emphasized that the nomination process is not a political rally and cautioned candidates against coming with large crowds.
“Nominees are reminded that only two people, a proposer and a seconder are allowed to accompany them as per the law,” Mucunguzi stated.
He also assured the public that media coverage is permitted, provided journalists adhere to the guidelines set by the Returning Officer.
The by-election, which has attracted growing interest from potential candidates, follows the unfortunate passing of the former MP and councillor in January.
As the nomination exercise progresses, political tension is rising, with many waiting to see who will make it onto the ballot.
