Police have confirmed the death of two people and injuries to twelve others following a road qccident involving a Pokopoko Company bus along the Mubende-Kyegegwa highway on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
The fatal accident occurred at around 2:20 PM at Biwanga, when an Isuzu bus, registration number UBR 796N, veered off the road and overturned.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Michael Kananura, the Public Relations Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the incident was caused by a tyre burst that led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst, causing the bus to veer off the road and overturn,” SP Kananura said.
“This unfortunate incident claimed the lives of two passengers one adult female and one juvenile female.” he added
He added that twelve other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Mubende Hospital for treatment.
SP Kananura emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance.
“We urge motorists to prioritize vehicle safety before embarking on their journeys,” he said. “Regularly checking tyre condition and ensuring that they are within the recommended expiry dates can significantly enhance safety on the roads.”
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing as efforts continue to promote road safety and prevent further tragedies.
