Tibikira Stephen, a driver for Kagadi Local Government, who was captured on video running over a protester last week has been remanded to government prison.
In an incident which was condemned by members of the public, Tibikira ran over Tumuhaise Magezi who was among locals of Muhoro, Bwikara, and surrounding areas in Kagadi district who were protesting over the poor state of Muhorro-Ndaiga road.
On Tuesday, he was arraigned before Grade One Magistrate Edward Kayukyi and charges of causing death through careless driving contrary to Section 108 of the Traffic Offences Act of 2020.
Prosecution told court that on February 26 at around 9:30am, Tibikiira caused the death of Tuhaise Magezi in Igurika Village along Muhooro-Bwikara Road while driving motor vehicle registration number UG 6998M in a manner which was dangerous to the public.
Tibikira denied the charges, promoting the magistrate to remand him to Kagadi Government Prison until March 26, 2024.
