The deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi has warned retiring police officers against joining those opposing government.
Speaking during the sendoff ceremony for 233 police officers between the rank of senior commissioner and police constable, the deputy IGP said there is nothing wrong in joining politics but warned the police retirees should not become saboteurs of government.
“There is wrong company of politicians who have seen you retiring and are going to use you to fight government. They are going to quote you that this is a message from a senior police officer who has just retired. You see, this government is this and that. You are going to sell like hot cake but don’t go there or else you will be arrested,” he said.
“If you want to go into politics, that is okay but don’t be used by wrong elements in society who now think now you know much and can be a saboteur. Please don’t do that at all.”
The deputy IGP also warned the retiring police officers against joining criminals to terrorise communities, noting that they risk being arrested.
“You are going to be welcomed in villages by big groups. The ones you have been arresting while in police but will now be your friends. They will ask you to go get trained in ways of making money. Don’t dare or else we shall round you up among criminals in our intelligence led operations.”
He also cautioned the group against using the retirement to marry more women, noting that this will be a burden to them
“This is not the time to marry another wife .Remember, every mouth has to be fed. This is not time to add another consuming mouth but time to reduce them.
Prof.Samuel Ssejaaka urged the retirees to reduce on their expenditure but also focus on living within their means.
He also urged them to make wise investment decisions or else they will blow all their pension.
“Don’t invest in things you don’t understand. You have been in police for 40 years, if you haven’t been rearing chicken, you can’t come out of the blue become an expert in that line. Remain an expert in the area you have been working in. Don’t become a businessman overnight because you picked a cheque overnight. Do things around your profession or else you will pay suing experience and you will lose your pension.”
