The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recalled Dickson Ogwang, from his posting at the Ugandan Mission in Sudan where he was serving as the charge de affairs in Khartoum.
The recalling letter was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Vincent Bagiire Waiswa.
“You should therefore hand over office by Section F-d of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders (2021) and report to the undersigned for further guidance,”Bagiire said in a November, 20 letter.
Last week, Ogwang caused drama in Lira when he drew a gun at Lango culture leaders during a meeting.
It took the intervention of seen police officers to wrestle the ambassador down and was consequently disarmed, arrested and taken to police in Lira.
Earlier last week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs permanent secretary wrote Ogwang to explain circumstances under which he was in Uganda during the unfortunate incident yet he had not got permission to be home.
“Whereas permission was granted to you to travel to Uganda from February, 23, 2024 and to South Africa from March, 4 to 9, 2024, it has been established that no permission has been granted to you to leave your duty station in Port Sudan for the date in question,”Bagiire said.
This is the second time Ogwang is being recalled from his duty station after a 2018 incident in which he was sacked as Uganda’s deputy ambassador to US for beating his wife.
Ogwang is said to have beaten his wife after she raised concern over a lady he was having an affair with.
The mistress is said to have been among the guests the ambassador had invited for a thanksgiving at his residence in the US.
Following the cases of domestic violence, the US government ordered Ogwang to pack his belongings and leave with immediate effect.
