A brave boda boda rider and his colleague who dared to give chase to armed robbers have been shot and injured.
The incident happened in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Wakiso District on the evening of April 11th, 2025.
The victims identified as Tumwesigye Peter, 27, and Abdul Swabur, 18 were shot by armed robbers who had just attacked a parked Toyota Premio ergistration UBE 079Z outside N & M Unisex Salon.
According to police, the two unidentified assailants riding a red Haojue motorcycle registration UGG 774A, used an AK-47 rifle to smash the vehicle’s windows and make off with two bags before attempting to flee.
Tumwesigye, a boda boda rider, spotted the robbers making their escape and gave chase unarmed but determined.
Swabur, who was nearby, joined in the pursuit but their courage cost them dearly when the assailants opened fire. Both men were seriously injured in the exchange.
The wounded were rushed to Mildmay Hospital, where Swabur was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident stating that investigations have started.
“Kajansi Police Division is investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred on April, 11, 2025 at around 6:20 PM in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District. We commend the swift response of the community and boda boda riders. Further updates will follow as investigations continue,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said police recovered an AK-47 rifle, the red Haojue motorcycle, a cartridge, a national ID suspected to belong to one of the assailants, two mobile phones, and a red bag used to conceal the firearm.
A black bag containing a ring spanner, reportedly belonging to the robbery victim, was also found at the scene.
