The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence(CMI) has changed name to Defence Intelligence and Security(DIS) in the latest changes owing to the UPDF Establishment.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs indicated that owing to the UPDF Establishment launched by President Museveni in February, the names of some of the offices in the UPDF have changed, effective April, 5.
“We wish to inform the public that new titles have officially been adopted and will be used in naming the offices of the UPDF, effective 5 April 2024,” the Ministry of Defence said.
Consequently, the Joint Chief of Staff(JCOS) changes to Chief of Joint Staff(CJS), Chief of Personnel and Administration changes to Joint Staff Human Resource Management (JS-HRM) while the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence changes to Defence Intelligence and Security.
The changes have also seen the Chief of Logistics and Engineering changes to Joint Staff Logistics, Chief of Training and Recruitment changes to Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, defence spokesperson changes to Defence Public Information Officer.
“More titles may be explained by the Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO) as and when required by the general public.”
The UPDF Establishment 2021 launched by President Museveni created a new organizational structure of the UPDF.
It also ensured the UPDF is made up of four services including the Land Forces which is described as the army, Air forces, reserve forces and special forces.
The UPDF Establishment also gave more powers to the CDF to be in charge of the entire UPDF.
