Police have said they are still battling the fire that gutted City House in Kampala.
The fire started at 9:15 am from the basement which houses California Bar and other restaurants.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the police fire prevention and rescue services were informed and reached the fire scene in time but said they are yet to put the fire out.
“We have an issue of not having fire hydrants near the building but whenever a truck gets empty, it runs to the nearest hydrant to get water,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said the occupants of the building were evacuated as soon as the fire started but noted that police cant confirm whether anyone has sustained injuries or lost a life but efforts to put out the fire are still ongoing.
Owoyesigyire said a detailed report will be released as soon as possible.
City House is also the headquarters for opposition Democratic Party.
