The Church of Uganda has elected Rev. Canon Gaster Nsereko as the seventh Bishop of the West Buganda Diocese.
His election was done by the House of Bishops, which convened at Acaki Hotel in Kitgum Diocese to gett a new spiritual leader for the diocese.
Nsereko will be officially consecrated and enthroned on March 30, 2025, in a ceremony to be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kako, located in Masaka District.
Born on July 5, 1965, in Bbira Naakuwadde, Busiro (Wakiso District), Rev. Canon Nsereko’s life has been shaped by deep faith and devotion.
He experienced a spiritual transformation on May 30, 1993, when he was born again at Namukozi in Mityana Diocese.
His journey into church leadership began much earlier when he was ordained as a Deacon on December 9, 1989, at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Namukozi. A year later, on December 10, 1990, he was ordained as a priest at the same cathedral.
His dedication to the ministry led to his recognition as a Canon on January 17, 2010, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kako.
Rev. Canon Nsereko currently serves as the Archdeacon of Kakoma Archdeaconry and Vicar of St. John’s Kakoma Church of Uganda in West Buganda Diocese.
Over the years, he has held several significant positions, including Provost of St. Paul’s Cathedral Kako, Subdean, and Archdeacon of Masaka Archdeaconry.
His leadership within the diocese has earned him deep respect among clergy and congregants alike.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Bishop-elect Nsereko is also an academic, holding a Bachelor of Divinity from Uganda Christian University and a Diploma in Primary Education from the Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo, among other qualifications.
He is married to Mrs. Sarah Nsereko, and together, they have been blessed with three children.
