Centenary Bank has launched banking services on WhatsApp to enable its retail customers to undertake a slew of banking requirements from their home.
Using the service on WhatsApp, Centenary Bank customers can do all banking and financial services on their WhatsApp on smartphones.
Speaking during the launch, Centenary Bank managing director, Fabian Kasi said the new service is aimed at to offering improved convenience to customers.
“This part of the digital journey of the bank that we have been on for quite some time. We hope this service will reshape the way customers engage with us by providing more alternative channels for access to banking services,” Kasi said.
He said the bank’s financial inclusion strategy stands on four pillars, with accessibility being key.
“Using channels like this one as an alternative fulfills the promise of us being accessible any time anywhere wherever you may be, to access our services. The landscape of banking and more so mobile banking are evolving rapidly driven by advancement in technology and the changing preference for our customers. It is therefore our responsibility as a forward-thinking institution to stay ahead of these changes and embrace innovations that not only meet but also exceed expectations of our customers.”
The General Manager Retail and Microfinance at Centenary Bank, Charles Kabanda said that WhatsApp being one of the mostly used messaging platforms in the world, it offers opportunities for the bank to widen its customer base.
“It empowers our customers to seamlessly manage their finances at their finger tips with instant messaging response with the ability to chat with the call centre agent for resolution of any issue that may arise. Our customers can use this service to perform a range of banking services,”Kabanda said.

According to officials, WhatsApp banking can allow Centenary Bank customers to carry balance inquiry, mini statement, change PIN , block card, unblock card, send money on mobile money, centenary bank account, interbank, airtime purchase, utilities URA and Cente loans among others.
