Pope Francis remains under close medical care at Gemelli Hospital in Rome as he undergoes treatment for double pneumonia.
The 87-year-old pontiff, who was admitted five days ago, is receiving specialized care, with Vatican officials expressing cautious optimism about his recovery.
The news of Pope Francis’s hospitalization has sent waves of concern across the Catholic world. From St. Peter’s Square to remote villages, Catholics have responded with an outpouring of prayers and well wishes.
Churches in Italy, the Philippines, Brazil, UAE and the United States have held special Masses, with worshippers asking for divine intervention for the Holy Father’s health.
In the Holy Father’s Angelus address, which he published and distributed yesterday, he thanked everyone for their prayers for him.
“I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world,” Pope said in a statement.
He encouraged the faithful to continue their apostolate with joy and love.
“I urge you to continue your apostolate with joy and to be a sign of a love that embraces everyone, as the #GospelOfTheDay suggests. May we transform evil into goodness and build a fraternal world. Do not be afraid to take risks for love!,” Pope added.
According to reports, the Pope has been responding well to treatment, though doctors remain vigilant due to his advanced age and previous health complications.
Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni assured the faithful that Pope Francis is “in good spirits” and continues to follow medical advice.
Meanwhile, Catholic leaders worldwide have urged the faithful to remain hopeful. “The Church stands united in prayer, asking God to grant him strength and healing,” said Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles.
As Pope Francis battles this health challenge, the world watches and prays, hoping for his swift return to the Vatican
