Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua has been appointed as the third Bishop of Masindi Kitara Diocese. His consecration and enthronement are scheduled for August 3, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Masindi.
A devoted servant of God, Rev. Canon Kugonza was born on October 7, 1976, in Kiryandongo District.
His spiritual journey took a significant turn on September 13, 1989, when he committed his life to Christ at Alwala Church of Uganda in Apac District, under West Lango Diocese.
He was ordained as a Deacon on January 13, 2010, and later as a Priest on December 14, 2010, both at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Masindi.
In recognition of his service, he was later installed as a Canon of the same cathedral.
The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda, sitting at Zebra Hotel in Masaka City on March 30, 2025, confirmed his appointment. His vast experience in ministry and leadership played a pivotal role in this decision.
Rev. Canon Kugonza currently serves as the Diocesan Secretary of Masindi Kitara Diocese, a position he has held since 2021.
His extensive pastoral and administrative experience includes roles as a Parish Priest, a project officer with Samaritan’s Purse, and a teacher and Headteacher at Kigumba Intensive Primary School.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Uganda Christian University and a Diploma in Education from National Teachers College Ngetta in Lira District, complemented by various professional training courses.
Rev. Canon Kugonza is also a family man, married to Proscovia Allen Kugonza, and they are blessed with four children.
As he prepares to assume his new role, the Masindi Kitara Diocese community anticipates his leadership in furthering the church’s mission and vision.
