Police have provided more details about the killing of Buganda Ndiga clan head, Daniel Bbosa who was shot dead by assailants moving on a motorcycle on Sunday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said preliminary investigations have indicated that the assailants who were three in number monitored the deceased’s movements before shooting him.
“ They were three in number and first parked in a corner near the road to his home in Lungujja. They had monitored the movement of the victim who was approaching the bend to his home .They then sped past the vehicle of the victim, they made u-turn and then drove back and shot at him from the front killing him instantly,” Enanga said.
He said the assailants fired three bullets that hit Bbosa’s head , killing him instantly while his wife, Gladys Bbosa and a housemaid who were also in the vehicle survived with no major injuries.
Police explained that the assailants who were three in number altered the number plate of the vehicle using black cello tape from UFX 854F to UEX 754 E.
Following the shooting, as the assailants tried to escape from the scene, boda bodas followed them and one of them knocked their motorcycle leading to a fall.
In the resultant melee, two of the assailants were beaten with one being killed on the spot while the second one was left in coma and rushed to hospital.
Police identified the deceased as Enock Sserunkuuma, a resident of Lungujja and the one who sustained serious injuries as Noah Lujja.
Enanga said Lujja is currently under close watch by police detectives at Mulago hospital.
“We took him for CT scan and results from medical teams are progressive and show he didn’t have any fracture on the head despite serious beating. He doesn’t have any born injuries. He came out of CT scan and is now conscious. We expect our teams to get very good information out of him,” Enanga said.
He said investigations have also indicated that the third assailants is currently on the run after escaping from the mob.
“At this stage we haven’t yet determined the motive but it appears to be a targeted incident since they only shot at Bbosa and none of those inside the car. Our teams are trying to troll the area and recover CCTV footage. The gun is being submitted to ballistic experts to identify when, where and whom it could have been allocated.”
Enanga hailed boda boda riders for being vigilant and swift in responding to the shooting by courageously pursuing the assailants
“ It’s a testament to good community vigilance and neighbourhood watch. However, you didn’t have to kill any of them. You need to have them subdued and not kill them since it negatively impacts investigations and establish motive of the crime and the perpetuators. When you eliminate him, we fail to get entire group of perpetrators behind murder plot.”
