Edward Ssebuufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe, the head of security for opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, wss reportedly been abducted by armed men on Sunday in Bukeree Kiwango, Mukono District.
According to the National Unity Platform (NUP), Mutwe had traveled to Bukeree Kiwango on Sunday to attend a Hakika (a baptism ceremony) for the child of a NUP foot soldier.
It was during this visit that he was reportedly seized by unidentified armed men and forced into a drone a type of van that has become notorious for being used in illegal abductions across Uganda.
“His current whereabouts are unknown,” NUP confirmed on X
Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, condemned the abduction, saying, “A short while ago, Eddie Mutwe was abducted from Mukono by armed men and taken in a drone.”
Ssenyonyi expressed deep concern over what he described as the continuous breakdown of the rule of law in the country.
“The continuous breakdown of the rule of law in Uganda should concern all right-thinking people,” he said.
Eddie Mutwe has been a close ally and trusted head of Bobi Wine’s security detail for years, often standing by the politician during tumultuous events, protests, and elections.
This incident adds to a growing list of reported abductions of opposition members and supporters, raising alarm over the state of political freedoms and civil rights in Uganda.
