Ven Canon Moses Banja has been consecrated and enthroned as the sixth bishop for Namirembe Diocese in the Anglican Church of Uganda.
While taking the oath, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr.Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu asked Ven Canon Banja to serve the church diligently.
“Are you ready to faithfully and diligently banish or drive away all erroneous and strange doctrines,” Kaziimba asked.
Banja answered in the affirmative.
In his maiden speech, the new Namirembe bishop said his focus would be preaching the gospel, building the existing ministries, improving the clergy’s welfare and promoting development projects.
He asked believers to assist him in transforming the church and nation at large.
In his speech read by the Vice President Jessica Alupo, President Museveni congratulated the new Namirembe bishop and urged him to help develop the church.
“Utilise your vast experience to equip believers with knowledge and skills to flourish,”Museveni said.
“We should not be limited to only evangelism, teaching and discipleship. Our young people should be taught important values of honesty, human dignity, Godliness, anti corruption, anti-sectarianism, unity, and hard work.”
He said the church, as is with other institutions, has a duty to raise a focused generation which has a vision for the country.
Banja becomes the sixth bishop for Namirembe diocese and replaces Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, who clocked the mandatory retirement age, having been bishop for 14 years.
