Ankole Subregion leaders have endorsed President Museveni to stand again in the 2026 presidential elections.
This endorsement was made on Wednesday, at Bushenyi Main Stadium.
These included Members of Parliament, Ministers, and LC5 chairpersons from districts in the Ankole Subregion, who vowed to offer their full support to the president even in 2026.
Among those who endorsed President Museveni was Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who stated that they had chosen the president as the NRM’s sole candidate for 2026.
“As leaders of the Ankole Subregion, we used this opportunity to unanimously endorse President Kaguta Museveni as the NRM’s sole candidate for 2026, reaffirming our support for his continued leadership of the country,” Tayebwa said.
Tayebwa noted that leaders in the Ankole region had presented a memorandum outlining key issues they believe will help eradicate poverty in their communities.
“Additionally, as leaders, we presented a memorandum outlining key issues we believe will drive transformation and help our people eradicate poverty. The NRM government, under the able leadership of H.E. Y.K. Museveni, remains committed to ensuring the development of our people at all levels across the country,” he added.
President Museveni is currently in the Ankole Subregion assessing the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
As part of his PDM assessment tour, President Museveni commissioned the Ankole Presidential Industrial Hub in Muko Village, Mbarara. The hub offers training in mechanics, tailoring, and modern farming and is expected to transform youth livelihoods in the region.
While in Bushenyi, President Museveni reminded the leaders about his four key principles: Wealth, Skills, Jobs, and Development.
“If the money we put in PDM were to be put in making roads, etc., we would have many good roads and a lot of development, but we would not have wealth for the people. We would have development and not wealth, yet it is wealth and skills that will give our people jobs,” President Museveni said.
