Anish Shekar, codirector of the organization Fountain of Hope, has dedicated his work to solving some of the pressing global problems through novel research and community-based solutions.
The Fountain of Hope Research Program, a program under his nonprofit conducts controlled scientific studies that improve livelihoods and increase survival rates among rural Malawians.
The institute’s research covers a wide array of topics, from the impact of solar energy to improved sanitation, innovative irrigation techniques, and HIV preventative measures.
Such work aims at providing practical and scalable solutions for communities suffering most from poverty, disease, and climate change.
Under the leadership of Shekar, the Fountain of Hope Climate Change Research Program was established to help combat increasing drought and lack of resources related to climate change.
Backed by Loska Enterprises and K2B Network World, Shekar and his team have pursued field studies on the efficiency of solar-powered boreholes and water pumps in creating sustainable irrigation systems.
Their findings, presented at a major research forum, proved that solar energy is a safe and workable alternative in order to reduce challenges linked to climate change.
Based on these findings, the institute has designed and installed solar-based irrigation systems serving
more than 1,000 Malawians, improving access to water and enhancing agricultural resilience.
