A first half goal by Vipers Sports Club midfielder, Allan Okello was enough for Uganda Cranes to beat Guinea in their World Cup qualifying encounter at Namboole Stadium on Tuesday.
Uganda came into the game on the backdrop of a 3-1 defeat to Mozambique in Cairo last week and second from bottom in the group, only above Somalia.
The Cranes needed redemption after their previous defeat.
Coach Paul Put made four changes to the starting XI, with goalkeeper, Ismail Watenga who is blamed for two of the three goals the team conceded against Mozambique dropped for Alionzi Nafian .
The changes also saw Rogers Mato, Ronald Ssekiganda and Travis Mutyaba come in the starting XI at Namboole.
With the hosts dominating affairs at home, youngster Allan Okello made no mistake in the 35th minute to put the ball in the back of the net from a well taken freekick.
Cranes were awarded a freekick after Guinea’s Mady Camara committed a foul in over 40 years.
Okello made no mistake to step up and curl the ball past the visitors’ goalkeeper to hit the back of the net to send the crowd at Namboole into frenzy .
Uganda built onto that goal to ensure they won the game on the day their goalkeeper, Nafian was almost on holiday.
The win ensured Uganda climbed to third position on nine points, three below Group G leaders with the East African nation having played a game more.
On the other side, Guinea remained fourth on the six team table, two points below Uganda .
