Airtel Money consumers can now have access to global shopping thanks to the company partnering with Diamond Trust Bank and Visa to launch a global pay virtual card.
The move will open e-commerce opportunities for Airtel Money customers and also make it easier for Ugandans when travelling abroad.
Speaking during the launch, the Airtel Money Uganda Managing Director, Japhet Aritho said the new card will go a long way in supporting e-commerce to flourish.
“We are not only availing global card to enable you purchase products anywhere in the world, we are also giving you total control over it. It means someone with a mobile phone is now able to access anything they want to buy anywhere in the world,” Aritho said.
Godfrey Ssebaana, the CEO of DTB described the new product as a great innovation .
“We are coming up and saying, instead of holding a plastic card, we can give you a digital card.You don’t even have to have a smartphone to access it. By just using a USSD code, you can access your card and make that payment to Netflix. You buy that ebook, you can buy that content that you think is going to help your business. So in in doing this, what are we committing to you, our customers, we are committing to offer a very secure solution that is supported by strong Cyber Framework,” Ssebaana said.
“ Our commitment to you is that we are going to put up quite a lot more sales products that are going to be of benefit to customers for now and the medium term.”
Lenin Oyuga from Mastercard said they are happy to connect customers financially to the other parts of the world

And that’s what has brought us here today,” Oyuga said.
