The Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF , Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has commiserated with families who loves their loved ones during Monday’s shooting by a UPDF soldier.
Private Ameny Bonny, who shot dead three civilians and injured two others on Monday in Ngora East village, Ngora parish, Paimol sub-county, Agago district.
In his condolence message read by the commander of the 5th division during the victims’ burial on Wednesday, Gen Kainerugaba condemned the shooting.
“I thank locals for their support and cooperation in this situation. As UPDF we mourn together and condemn the unprofessional act by this errant UPDF soldier. The action of that evil shooter who took away lives of innocent citizens doesn’t represent the character of and conduct of the UPDF,” Gen Muhoozi said.
“ The UPDF draws strength from the people and cant deliberately shoot and kill the people they are meant to protect.”
The Chief of Defence Forces said in addition to covering burial expenses and treating the injured, each of the deceased families will receive shs5 million and shs3 million to each of the families whose loved ones were injured.
He assured locals that the hunt for the killer soldier is still on.
“I want to assure you hunt is on to arrest the criminal and once arrested, the General Court Martial shall convene at the scene of crime to dispense justice in your presence,” Gen Kainerugaba said.
“The UPDF shall continue to respect and count on Ugandans and in any case it is because of Ugandans that UPDF exists.”
