The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Joel Ssenyonyi has claimed that a new cash bonanza is currently happening at Parliament.
He said each MP is receiving Shs100 million in appreciation for supporting the recently passed Coffee Bill.
Ssenyonyi said select opposition MPs and those from the ruling NRM party are receiving the cash
“We’ve learnt that there is money which is surreptitiously exchanging hands in Parliament. Information reaching us is that they are giving each NRM MP, 100m shs each, as appreciation for the coffee bill that was passed, and also in readiness for the proposed amendment to the UPDF Act which will seek to cement the trial of civilians in the Court Martial inspite of the Supreme Court ruling,” Ssenyonyi posted on his social media platforms.
The development comes at a time when Parliament has been facing a storm over corruption.
There was a protest last year against corruption at Parliament.
There have been previous cash bonanzas at parliament where MPs have been given huge sums of money to pass certain bills.
