Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sam Omara, has died, his family has confirmed.
Omara, 65, has been bedridden for a number of months after suffering from prostate cancer but was also later diagnosed with kidney failure.
Omara is mostly remembered for his work as Kampala North Police Operations Commander during the 2011 walk to work protests that saw him get into confrontation with opposition strongman, Dr.Kizza Besigye, the architect behind the protests.
He was on several occasions involved in cat and mouse games with Besigye.
Opposition politicians on several occasions accused him of commanding brutality meted out to them during the time.
He a few years ago retired from active service of the Uganda Police Force and joined private security work after being named the deputy CEO for Arrow Security Services, a company owned by Capt Mike Mukula.
