The NRM National Treasurer, Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has presided over the closure of the five-day Uganda Secondary Schools’ Championship for the Bukedi subregion.
The competitions took place at Madibira Primary School in Busia Municipality.
The tournament drew participants from 58 schools across the subregion, with Busia Secondary School coming top among the boys and Tororo Girls School emerging victorious from the girls’ competitions.
The two champions will be joined by the 1st and 2nd runners-up to represent the subregion at the national level.
Amb. Nekesa commended the students for engaging in sports, saying apart from winning, they help to keep them active and strong in their educational endeavours and keep their bodies fit.
”Government is committed to developing the sports sector through establishing minimum zonal infrastructure of two stadiums per subregion to facilitate training and development of talents right from the grassroots,” Amb. Nekesa said.
“The NRM government is committed to promoting youth development and nurturing of their talents.”
