Moses Mukisa, an African traditional music producer, singer, and trainer, has big dreams.
In an interview with this website, Mukisa said he is looking at the international stage to spread his gospel of African traditional music. But first, he wants to establish a vibrant African traditional music band.
“Everything is done, and I have the equipment, and we have trained several singers,” he said.
He says he is going to establish a music band which will travel internationally and play different kinds of African traditional music drawing from several cultures in Uganda and around the continent.
When asked how he is going to achieve all, Mukisa said, “With God, everything is possible.”
He said he has travelled out of the country and he has realized the love people have for locally produced music.
In his 30s, Mukisa has already done a lot.
He has built two schools, one in Lukaaya and another in Masaka town. In these schools that help the underprivileged, children are taught about culture and traditional music.
Some of these children will be integrated into his band.
“Children from local communities have not utilized their talents, that’s why I am going to make sure that they are supported so that they can have a bright future,” Mukisa said.
Mukisa said many people claim to be musicians, yet they can’t play a single traditional musical instrument like the trumpet. He said these have diluted the standards of traditional music in Uganda, something he wants to reverse.
Mukisa plans to build an African traditional music band that can dominate the international stage. To do this, he plans to go abroad and hold concerts. He said he will come back and share his experience.
