Three people including a police officer have been confirmed dead after a devastating hail storm hit Kalangala’s Bugala Island on Saturday morning.
According to the Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, the cyclone hit the Kalangala district police at Bugala Island at atound 7:21am.
“ The storm, which originated from the eastern side of Kalangala, caused significant damage to the police barracks, leaving almost all officers’ accommodations destroyed and part of the station’s administration roof torn off,” Kasirye said.
He identified the dead police officer at D/Sgt Mujasi Micheal, alongside two other civilians yet to be identified while several other officers and members of the community sustained serious injuries.
“The injured personnel have been rushed to Kalangala HC1V for medical attention, while the bodies of the have been retrieved and conveyed to Kalangala Hospital mortuary.”
He added that rescue efforts are currently underway.
