Police have warned that they will soon expose individuals posing as pastors by day and traditional healers by night, defrauding unsuspecting followers of millions of shillings.
According to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, authorities have received numerous complaints from victims who were scammed by these individuals.
“In Uganda, numerous individuals have fallen victim to fake pastors and traditional healers, resulting in significant financial losses amounting to millions of shillings,” Rusoke said.
He noted that the preliminary investigations reveal that these scammers pose as religious pastors during the day but transform into traditional healers at night.
When the victims attempt to reclaim their money or property, the fraudsters allegedly resort to threats and intimidation.
“When victims demand refunds which is usually inform of cash and physical property, these fake pastors or healers resort to issuing threats.”
He further noted that several suspects have already been identified, and police are preparing to expose them and prosecute them accordingly.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals engaging in such deceitful activities.
“In the meantime, we encourage the public to be cautious and report any encounters with these fraudulent individuals to the police,” Kituuma emphasized.
