The Minister for Works and Transport, Gen Katumba Wamala has urged the public to use alternative routes as Karuma Bridge is set to be closed to allow for final repairs.
Following last year’s closure for urgent repairs, Kaaruma Bridge was partially opened on December 20 for only light vehicles to ease travel during the festive season.
In a statement on Friday, the minister said there will be another closure starting March 10 to 31, 2025 to allow for final repairs on the bridge.
“To complete these essential works, the Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to announce the installation of expansion joints on Karuma Bridge starting 10th March to 31st March 2025 to ensure long-term stability and full traffic restoration,” Gen Katumba said.
He noted that the bridge will be closed to all traffic to allow installation of expansion joints on Ayago Bridge (Karuma—Olwiyo road) whose expansion joints have been damaged due to fatigue.
