The Democratic Party (DP) has unveiled Henry Kasacca Mubiru as its flag bearer for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election, scheduled for March 13.
During a ceremony held at DP headquarters on Balintuma Road, DP president ,Norbert Mao, handed over the party symbols to Kasacca, signifying his official endorsement.
Kasacca, in his address, emphasized the urgent need for political renewal in Uganda, citing a leadership crisis across all levels of governance.
He called for a shift towards leadership that prioritizes the needs of the people rather than personal interests.
“We need a political class that prioritizes the people, not personal interests,” Kasacca remarked.
He described the by-election as an opportunity not only for Kawempe North but also for the Democratic Party to revitalize its political presence nationwide.
He also emphasized the need for greater dialogue and reorganization among opposition parties, arguing that without unity, meaningful change would be difficult to achieve.
Norbert Mao, the DP president, highlighted the significance of the by-election, calling it an opportunity to raise voter awareness on the need for leaders who can effectively represent and address the people’s concerns in Parliament.
The DP candidate will compete against Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola (NUP), Muhammad Lusswa Luwemba, Hajjati Faridah Nambi (NRM), FDC’s Sadaati Mukiibi famously known as Khalifah Aganaga and other contenders in what is expected to be a heated race for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat left vacant after the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya last month.
With campaigns set to kick off soon, the by-election is already shaping up to be a crucial battle between Uganda’s leading political parties as they vie for dominance in the capital city.
