Umar Magala, one of the contenders in the Kawempe North by-election for the National Unity Platform(NUP) has said he will rally behind lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbaazi who was given the party flag.
Magala with 52.5% was declared the runners up behind Nalukoola.
Commenting about the decision, Magala said he has confidence in the decision of NUP’s electoral committee.
“I was once part of the party’s electoral committee, so I strongly believe in their work. For that reason, I am going to rally behind Counsel Nalukoola to ensure we win the Kawempe North Constituency seat.”
He commended the party president, the electoral committee, and his fellow contestants for conducting a democratic and transparent process.
Magala , a professional teacher, was one of the strongest candidates in the race but was ultimately defeated by Nalukoola, a lawyer, in the contest for the NUP ticket.
Nalukoola, now the NUP flag bearer, will face off against NRM’s Faridah Nambi, FDC’s Sadaati Mukiibi, also known as Khalifah Aganaga, among other contenders.
The Kawempe North by-election is scheduled for March 13, following the passing of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9 at Lubaga Hospital after a prolonged illness.
