The Buganda Road Magistrates Court has adjourned to February, 11, 2025, the case in which four-time presidential candidate, Dr.Kizza Besigye and Samuel Lubega Mukaaku are accused of inciting violence.
On Tuesday, the state produced Detective Sargent Stephen Oryema, a scenes of crime officer as the fifth witness who implicated the duo .
In the cross-examination by lawyers led by Erias Lukwago, Oryema stammered as he tried to answer some of the questions.
Later, the state prosecutors, Ivan Kyazze and Allan Mucunguzi requested for an adjournment to be able to summon their last witness.
The trial magistrate, Winne Nankya adjourned the case to February 11.
Dr Besigye and Mukaku are accused of unlawfully demonstrating against the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country in 2023.
According to the prosecution, they allegedly used a loudspeaker to call for the overthrow of the government, an act described as incitement to violence.
Dr. Besigye was escorted to court under tight security but there was also heavy deployment in and around the Buganda Road Court area.
Roads near the court were also closely monitored by security personnel.
The veteran politician remains in detention on separate security-related charges and is expected to appear before the Makindye Court Martial on February 3, 2025.
