Centenary Bank has reaffirmed its commitment as a platinum sponsor of the 2025 Rotary Cancer Run, announcing a donation of Shs500 million towards cancer care at St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya.
This generous contribution is part of the bank’s annual commitment to Corporate Social Investment (CSI), where it allocates 2% of its net profit from the previous year to support various community projects across Uganda.
The bank’s CSI efforts are focused on improving the lives of diverse groups, including youth, women, refugees, children, the elderly, and the business community. These initiatives span multiple sectors, such as financial literacy, education, health, nutrition, sanitation, waste management, environmental conservation, and collaborations with the church and other community organizations.
This year, the Rotary Cancer Run’s fundraising focus will be on completing two bunkers that will house LINAC cancer treatment machines at the Rotary Cancer Centre.
Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick, praised the Rotarians in Uganda for their collective effort in tackling cancer.
She highlighted the significant health challenge posed by cancer in Uganda and worldwide, commending the Rotary community’s unwavering commitment to providing vital treatment for patients who cannot afford care abroad. “For 13 years, you’ve united your resources and expertise to make this possible. That’s the spirit of Rotary—changing lives,” she said.
Beatrice Lugalambi, Centenary Bank’s General Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, expressed pride in the bank’s long-standing partnership with Rotary. “Our involvement with this run has become an integral part of our identity. Over the years, we have contributed over Shs3 billion to this cause, rallying behind Ugandans who unite to support the fight against cancer,” she stated.
According to the Uganda Cancer Society (UCS), only 7,400 out of the estimated 33,000 to 34,000 new cancer cases reported annually in Uganda reach the Uganda Cancer Institute at early stages. Lugalambi emphasized the importance of continuing to build on the momentum created in the past 13 years. “We need to double our efforts to eradicate cancer in Uganda, starting with this 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run,” she said.
The Chairperson of the 2025 Cancer Run, Rita Balaka, revealed that this year’s edition will span two days, featuring a Medical Expo and other activities from August 30 to 31, 2025, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The marathon will return to its spiritual home, Kololo Independence Grounds, after being temporarily moved to UMA Grounds in Lugogo during the 2024 edition for renovations.
Participants in this year’s marathon can purchase their kits using their Cente Visa or Cente Mastercard and collect them from any Centenary Bank branch nationwide.
