The judiciary has announced the death of grade one magistrate, Marion Mangeni.
In a statement on Thursday morning , the judiciary said Mangeni died from Mengo Hospital on Wednesday evening.
By the time of her death, Mangeni had just been deployed to the Anti Corruption Division of the High Court in Kampala.
In transfers announced on Sunday, the grade one magistrate who was at the Judicial Training Institute was among the 45 judicial officers transferred elsewhere and her transfer was set to take effect on January, 1, 2025.
Prior to the grade one magistrate’s transfer, she was the head of Law Reporting at Uganda Legal Information Institute which is under the Judicial Training Institute.
Judiciary has described Mangeni as one who was dedicated to ensuring access to legal information.
“As we mourn this great loss, Uganda Legal Information Institute operations will be temporarily inactive. We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time as we honor her legacy and contributions to the legal community,” the judiciary said.
Mangeni who previously served as a magistrate at Buganda Road court in 2022 convicted businessman, Mukesh Shukla Babubhai on six counts of uttering a false document.
The businessman was ordered to pay a fine of shs2 million on each of the six counts of forgery.
Grade one Magistrate, Marion Mangeni was also in charge of a case of a 2022 private prosecution instituted by lawyer Robert Rutaro against current Uganda Law Society president Isaac Ssemakadde.
Rutaro accused Ssemakadde of using his social media platforms to abuse High Court judge, Musa Ssekaana.
