The Ministry of Works and Transport has introduced unique reflector jackets for boda boda riders in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

According to the ministry, the reflector  jackets will feature details about the riders, including their photo, name, and contact information while each  jacket will also include a scannable QR code for instant verification of the rider’s identity.

While reflector jackets for riders in Kampala central division will be pink in colour, those in Makindye will wear blue, Forest green for Nakawa and

The ministry said the information on the jackets will be synchronized with the motorcycle’s registered details, including its number plate.

“This initiative is designed to improve rider identification, enhance passenger safety, and reduce cases of impersonation. It is a significant step towards creating an organized and accountable transport system,” the ministry said.

The move is aimed at bringing sanity within the boda boda industry, especially in Kampala.

However, this move is not new, having previously introduced by Kampala Capital City Authority after training boda boda riders in 2022.

During that time, over 50,000 riders were trained and given reflector jackets that they had to pay for.

It ended at that and many of those who had acquired the reflector jackets no longer wear them.
