The UPDF has arrested a man who assaulted a UPDF soldier attached to the Special Forces Command while clearing the way for President Museveni.
An altercation kicked off when an SFC soldier who was clearing the way for the president’s convoy was met with resistance from locals and in a video which has gone viral, one of them was seen throwing punches at the soldier.
The incident is said to have happened at Nakaloke trading centre, a junction connecting Mbale and Sironko.
According to the deputy UPDF spokesperson, Col Deo Akiiki, the man in the video has been identified as Shaban Wesemoyo, a boda boda tax collector.
“He was arrested for obstructing security of the president and attacking a security personnel on duty and is to be charged,” Col Akiiki said.
The deputy UPDF spokesperson warned members of the public against obstructing soldiers on duty.
“Security personnel are deployed to ensure the smooth and safe movement of the presidential convoy, including advising road users to vacate the path. Such acts of obstruction and misconduct undermine these efforts and will not be tolerated.”
