After continuous campaigning with large open rallies, the NRM officials and their nominee, Rose Kabagyeni over the weekend held town hall meetings as a strategy to consolidate their support.
The party officials from the secretariat, members of the Central Executive Committee, and area legislators urged the leaders of the NRM structures to stick to the flag bearer and comb their communities for her support on Thursday.
“We urge you to vote for Kabagyeni and also make sure the votes are well protected at all polling stations,” Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer and head of campaigns, said in the Bufumbira South engagement.
“We shall rely on you for information because you are well conversant with the terrain. You should do a good job in the remaining campaign days to ensure the NRM flag in Kisoro keeps flying high,” Kyatuhaire added.
As party officials convened hall engagements, Kabagyeni was traversing Kyanika town council, Chahi, and Nyakinama sub-counties for last-minute mobilisation, holding rallies centred on service delivery, consolidating the NRM majority support and empowerment projects to improve livelihoods.
“We cannot afford to divide our votes in this election to weaken our party. I urge you to vote for the NRM because it is pro-people in its policies,” Kabagyeni said.
She also invited the masses to turn up on Tuesday, when the president, who is also NRM Chairman , President Museveni, will be in the district to seek Kabagyeni’s votes at Ssaza grounds.
The campaigns by the NRM team for Kabagyeni happened at the same time as a party member, Grace Akifeza Ngabirano who came as an independent candidate also canvassed the area for votes.
Ngabirano who lost in the party primaries is supported by the district party chairman and former minister, Dr.Philemon Mateke who was dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.
He insists that the outcome didn’t reflect the views of the people of Kisoro and consequently chose to campaign for Ngabirano whom he says is the rightful candidate for the NRM.
The NRM secretariate has warned Dr.Mateke against indiscipline and going against the party decision.
Kisoro will go into polls on November, 14 to vote the district Woman MP , following the death of Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi on September, 7.
