Legendary Nollywood stars, Patience Ozokwor, also known as Mama G, and Kanayo O. Kanayo have been confirmed to attend the 2025 iKon Awards.
In a series of videos shared on social media by Humphrey Nabimanya, a film producer and founder of the iKon Awards, he is seen handing over plaques to the legendary actors and sharing official invitations to attend the third edition of the iKon Awards – happening in March 2025.
The iKon Awards are a platform that recognise and reward exceptional individuals and organisations that embody the spirit of creativity, innovation and enterprise in Uganda’s film and TV industry.
The second edition of the awards was held in March this year and saw 26 players in the industry win several awards.
The event was also attended by the cream of Uganda’s film industry as well as Nigerian superstars Osita Iheme, Chris Odeh, Ramsey Nouah, Uche Ateli and Nancy Isime.
Nabimanya is in Nigeria on a benchmarking tour of several studios and meeting various players in the country’s film industry – which is Africa’s biggest and one of the world’s fastest growing creative industries.
In one of the posts shared on Instagram, Nabimanya said, “The level of innovation and disruptive thinking I’m seeing in Nigeria’s film ecosystem is mind-blowing and explains why it’s one of the fastest growing creative industries in the world.”
He added, “Uganda has such beautiful stories to tell, and my vision is to emulate the Nigerian willingness to think outside the box and take risks. That’s what’s going to get our stories to a global audience and get our creatives sufficiently paid.”
Part of the engagements around the iKon Awards are a series of masterclasses where young and upcoming filmmakers receive instruction from professionals on several topics like scriptwriting, directing, production and so on.
It will be a valuable experience for promising young players in the industry to benefit from Mama G’s years of experience.
