It was an evening of unmatched elegance and glamour on Saturday morning as the International University of East Africa crowned its beauty king and queen.
This was during the 11th edition of the Mr. and Miss IUEA pageant at the main campus in the auditorium, under the theme “Empowered and elegant.”
It was yet another exhilarating night of mesmerizing talent showcases, electrifying cultural performances, and fashions displays as contestants showcased their skills as the university celebrated talent, cultural richness, and the spirit of change.
The climax of the event was the crowning of Thon Deng Thon, a Congolese student and Siguei Simei Francesca from South Sudan Mr. and Miss. International University of East Africa for the year 2024.
Sheba Kasande and Kuei Malek Mathiang were the first and second runners up in the Miss IUEA category while Robel Hagos Mahray and Jerome Pelham were the first and second runners up in the Mr.IUEA category.
IUEA vice chancellor, Prof Emeka Akaezuwa said the beauty pageant is one way of bringing students together to loosen up, away from academics.
“It brings our students together in asocial way, away from the stress of books and they loosen up. This beauty pageant is an opportunity for them to loosen up and enjoy themselves,” Prof. Emeka said.
“You will find students doing engineering participating in fashion shows and students from all other disciplines displaying their talents. As university, we focus so much on academics but also innovation and these are opportunities for our students to showcase their academic abilities.”
He said the winners have automatically become IUEA brand ambassadors but have also secured themselves scholarships until they finish studies at the university.
