A catholic priest who returning from a Sunday mass has perished in a road accident in Ibanda district.
Rev. Fr. Wycliff Byamugisha, the Curate Priest of Nyabuhikye Centre in Kagngo Parish, Ibanda District died on Sunday in a nasty accident at Kabagoma cell in Igorora, along the Mbarara -Ibanda highway.
The accident happened when the vehicle in which the catholic priest was travelling in collided head-on with a truck killing him on the spot.
Rwizi Region Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the accident but said investigations have started, adding the body has been taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
The head of communications for the Mbarara Catholic Archdiocese, Fr.Charles Mutabruka confirmed the death.
“It is so unfortunate that we have lost Father Byamugisha. We ask God to keep us strong in this trying moment,” he said.
Rev. Fr. Byamugisha, hailed from Kashekuro Parish in Sheema District and was ordained as a priest in 2018.
