President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, presided over a retirement ceremony for Deborah Katuramu, Deputy Head of Public Service, during a Cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe on Monday.
The occasion marked Katuramu’s final appearance at the Cabinet as she retires after a distinguished 49-year career in public service.
President Museveni lauded Katuramu for her exemplary and corruption-free service, presenting her with a presidential award as a token of appreciation. “I have not heard anything about her being involved in corruption,” Museveni stated, wishing her a fulfilling retirement.
Katuramu’s public service journey began in 1975 as a Personnel Officer, rising to Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet. Her 49-year career earned her admiration from her colleagues for her professionalism, wisdom, and commitment.
Vice President Jessica Alupo praised Katuramu for her efficiency, availability, and mentorship of future leaders. “Your motherly and professional guidance will be missed,” Alupo remarked, highlighting Katuramu’s significant impact on many leaders.
Lucy Nakyobe, Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, expressed her appreciation for Katuramu’s dedication, noting that her institutional knowledge had greatly benefited Uganda’s public service.
“Her unwavering dedication will be remembered for generations,” Nakyobe said, emphasizing the lasting impact of Katuramu’s contributions.
Reflecting on her career, Katuramu expressed gratitude for the opportunities she had to serve in various sectors, including Local Government, Culture and Community Development, and the Office of the President.
She acknowledged the support from her colleagues, particularly Lucy Nakyobe, in preparing Cabinet papers and minutes.
As Katuramu embarks on retirement, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a profound influence on Uganda’s public service.
