Uganda Airlines has launched new flight routes to Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe, marking a significant milestone in its expansion strategy.
The addition of these destinations brings the national carrier’s route network to 16 cities, with flights scheduled to operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Jennifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, described the expansion as a key step in connecting East and Southern Africa.
“We are happy to return to the capitals of Zambia and Zimbabwe, countries whose history and culture are closely linked to Uganda. These two destinations expand travel options within the region and beyond, demonstrating our commitment to providing safe, affordable, and reliable air transport services to connect the continent,” she said.
The new routes will be served by Uganda Airlines’ CRJ 900-LR aircraft fleet, recognized as the youngest fleet in Africa by Ch-Aviation.
Bamuturaki added that the flights are designed to serve passengers traveling to Uganda as well as those looking to connect to other destinations across Uganda Airlines’ network, including Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Dubai, and Mumbai.
Uganda’s ambassador to Zambia, Col (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, praised the launch, highlighting the deep historical ties between Uganda and Zambia. He emphasized that the direct flights would further strengthen trade, tourism, and business ties between the two countries.
“With the launch of this direct flight, we are shortening geographical distance and creating new avenues for trade and investment. Both countries boast abundant natural resources and vibrant business communities. This new air link will make it easier for businesses to collaborate, while also promoting regional trade and economic growth,” said Mwesigye.
He also noted that the flight route would play a crucial role in promoting tourism, highlighting both nations’ rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
“By facilitating easier travel between our nations, we invite citizens and international visitors alike to explore the beauty and diversity of Uganda and Zambia.”
The introduction of the Lusaka and Harare routes is expected to boost business cooperation across key sectors such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and services, while further promoting regional integration and development.
