Entebbe International Airport handled a record-breaking 212,701 international passengers in August 2024, averaging 6,861 passengers per day, according to the latest figures from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).
This marks the highest passenger count in the airport’s history for a single month.
Out of the total, 108,055 were departing passengers, while 104,646 were arrivals. The previous record was set in December 2023, with 198,961 passengers, averaging 6,418 per day.
July 2024 saw the third-highest number of passengers, totalling 195,909, with 100,767 arrivals and 95,142 departures, averaging 6,319 per day.
August 2023’s figures rank fourth, with 191,507 passengers, averaging 6,177 daily.
Cargo traffic also saw significant activity in August 2024, with 3,525 metric tonnes of exports and 1,885 metric tonnes of imports, totalling 5,410 metric tonnes.
The UCAA highlighted that passenger traffic in the first half of 2024 rose by 27% compared to the same period in 2023.
From January to June 2024, Entebbe handled 1,069,224 international passengers—527,692 arrivals and 541,532 departures—up from 842,429 in the same period the previous year.
Cargo traffic also surged, with 32,794 metric tonnes handled between January and June 2024, including 22,380 metric tonnes of exports and 10,414 metric tonnes of imports.
This was an increase from 25,951 metric tonnes recorded in the first half of 2023, with export cargo growing by 18.9% and import cargo rising by 46.2%.
UCAA noted that exports have consistently exceeded imports over the past four years, even with the continued growth in both sectors.
In July 2024, Entebbe Airport recorded 5,741 metric tonnes of cargo, slightly down from 5,745 metric tonnes in July 2023.
