The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced that Kampala will experience a citywide water outage throughout the day tomorrow, Friday, due to a planned power shutdown at the Ggaba Power Station.
In a statement released on Thursday, NWSC indicated that the water supply interruptions will last from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., affecting numerous areas across the city. The power shutdown is part of an effort by Umeme, the national electricity distributor, to enhance power reliability at the Ggaba Power Station.
“The planned power shutdown by the Umeme team aims to improve power supply reliability at the Ggaba Power Station,” NWSC stated.
The areas affected by the water outage will include Ggaba, Buziga, Kansanga, Munyonyo, Muyenga, Kampala Central Business District (CBD), Nansana, Matugga, Makerere, Kyengera, Nateete, Wankulukuku, Rubaga, Namirembe, Mengo, Kawempe, Bwaise, parts of Jinja Road, Nakawa, Kyambogo, Namasuba, Najjanankumbi, Lubowa, Bombo Road, and surrounding areas.
NWSC has advised residents in the affected areas to store water and use it sparingly. “Customers are encouraged to store water and use it sparingly, as it will take time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown,” the statement read.
Residents are urged to prepare for the water outage by storing sufficient water to meet their needs during the planned shutdown period.
