2025 AFCON qualifiers: Uganda 2-0 Congo Brazzaville
Uganda earned a crucial 2-0 victory over Congo Brazzaville in their second group game of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, with goals in each half securing the win.
Following a 2-2 draw against South Africa in their opening match last week, Uganda was determined to capitalize on their home advantage at Namboole Stadium, and their efforts paid off.
Defender Aziz Kayondo opened the scoring in the 21st minute, igniting celebrations among the home fans. The game remained tense until the 85th minute when substitute Jude Ssemugabi, who had replaced the injured Muhammad Shaban late in the first half, doubled Uganda’s lead, sealing the victory.
The win marks Uganda’s first in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, bringing their total points to four after the draw in their opening match against South Africa.
