Legendary Ugandan singer Joseph Mayanja, known as Jose Chameleone, delivered a remarkable performance at his sold-out “Legend in Gold” concert held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
The event marked 25 years of Chameleone’s illustrious career in the music industry and was supported by I&M Bank Uganda as the official banking partner.
Chameleone, dressed in a golden robe, took the stage at exactly 9:10 p.m. and opened with his classic hit “Kipepeo.” With no curtain raisers, he dived straight into his performance, captivating the audience with a wide range of songs from his extensive music catalog. The concert began with energetic hits from the early 2000s like “Beyi Kali,” “Mambo Bado,” “Befula,” “Nekolera Maali,” “Dorotia,” “Mama Mia,” “Byansi Byakuleka,” “Moto Moto,” and continued with more recent hits like “Kigwa Leero.”
Chameleone’s set included a touching tribute to his wife, Daniella, with a performance of the song “Daniella,” originally sung by Papa Cidy and performed by his son during the concert. The second session featured more popular hits, including “Vumilia,” “Valu Valu,” “Badilisha,” and “Basima Ogenze.” Weasle, Chameleone’s younger brother, joined him on stage for a powerful rendition of their hit “Bomboclat.”
The event attracted a diverse audience, including musicians, government officials, socialites, and fans of all ages, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated Chameleone’s music and its cultural impact.
The concert served as a platform for I&M Bank Uganda, which recently celebrated its golden jubilee at the same venue, to reaffirm its support for arts and culture.
“Partnering with an icon of Chameleone’s stature highlights our commitment to excellence and community. Given his 25-year milestone in the music industry, it was a natural fit for us to associate with the ‘Legend in Gold’ concert, which aligns with our values of legacy, prestige, and the enduring power of excellence,” said Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at I&M Bank.
“Our involvement reflects not only our appreciation for the arts but also our desire to engage with events that embody the spirit of achievement and continuity,” she added.
The concert concluded in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving attendees with lasting memories of Jose Chameleone’s silver jubilee celebration.
