Former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga has said he must thank God for protecting him from both his enemies and friends.
“I have come to thank God for protecting me from both my friends and enemies. I want to ask you to join me tomorrow during the thanksgiving ceremony in Kitovu and we wine and dine,” Mpuuga said.
The commissioner of Parliament was on Thursday speaking to supporters at Lukaya roadside market as he held a procession to Masaka City ahead of tomorrow’s thanksgiving.
The Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator is set to hold a thanksgiving ceremony in his home area on Friday.
For several months, there has been a standoff between Mpuuga and National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi which became pronounced when the former was implicated in receiving shs500 million as a service award for his time as Leader of Opposition.
Whereas Mpuuga was asked to resign over the money, he insisted it was lawful and refused to step aside.
Meanwhile, the NUP sought to drop him from the position of commissioner of parliament but the move was blocked by the Speaker of Parliament.
Mpuuga recently announced he will organize a thanksgiving for what he has gone through.
Speaking on Thursday, he applauded the people of Lukaya and Kalungu district at large for standing firm behind him.
“I am Mpuuga your own and the original one. I have never changed a bit. Those who come will do but will leave as they found us,” Mpuuga said.
“Any person created by God must in every situation sit back, think about it and move forward. I tell you that I will never go back. I will remain the original Mpuuga that you know.”
The statements by Mpuuga have been interpreted by many as meant to sting NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine with whom they are no longer seeing eye to eye.
