The Anti Corruption Court in Kampala has remanded to Kitalya prison, the three MPs recently arrested over their involvement in corruption at parliament.
Yusuf Mutembuli( Bunyole East constituency), Cissy Namujju( Lwengo Woman MP) and Paul Akamba( Busiki County) were on Wednesday afternoon presented before Anti Corruption Court chief magistrate Joan Aciro and charged with involvement in soliciting kickbacks during the drafting of the budget.
Prosecution alleges that the trio solicited a share of the Uganda Human Rights Commission’s 2024/25 budget after promising to influence its increase.
They denied the charges and were remanded until Friday.
Delivering his state of the nation address, President Museveni said he would deal with those involved in corruption.
“I have been hearing stories that there is racket from ministry of finance to parliament. I have been hearing of it but now I have proof. Their time is up. I have been hearing that from ministry of finance, they arrange with accounting officers of ministries to come to parliament to provide certain funds provided they take a share,” Museveni said.
“I have been getting good information about corrupt actors among the public servants but also among the political actors. With firm evidence, I will crush these traitors. Public servants and political leaders that steal government money are corrupt and will be crushed.
