Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which the body of a Makerere University lecturer who has been missing was found floating on Lake Victoria.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said in a statement that the deceased is Julius Mugaga, 32 a lecturer at Makerere University and a resident of Kasubi in Lubaga division.
“Police picked information from a WhatsApp group of Luzira of an unknown person whose body was seen by fishermen floating on waters of Lake Victoria at Senene island,” Onyango said.
He said police responded to the incident which had been reported at around midday and retrieved the body from the water before being conveyed to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem.
Onyango said at the scene, police recovered a Aquos mobile Phone, a bank deposit slip of Equity bank dated May, 13, 2024, in the names of Mugaga Julius and a pair of rubber blue sandals recovered near the body at the shores.
“The body was found in a decomposing state dressed in a dark and light blue t shirt and a pair of assorted colour shorts,” Onyango said.
He said the deceased lecturer’s relatives were identified through the missed calls in the deceased phone and one Ssebufu Alex a biological brother identified the deceased as Mugaga Julius.
